Hunting Laws and Regulations
The best resource for Colorado’s hunting laws and regulations is our hunting brochures, but despite this, hunters are ticketed for violations every year. Simply reading through Colorado’s hunting brochures every year can help you avoid getting a ticket. The brochures cover dozens of laws and regulations, but we’re going to spend a little time focusing on the ones people tend to violate the most.
Felony Offenses
There are three hunting laws in Colorado that can result in a felony charge if you break them. If convicted of any one of these felony violations, you can face a lifetime license suspension and you will never be allowed to hunt again. These felony offenses are:
- Killing and abandoning big game. It is illegal to remove only the hide, antlers, or other trophy parts and leave the carcass in the field.
- It is illegal to sell, buy, or offer to sell or buy big game.
- It is illegal to solicit someone to illegally kill big game for commercial gain or provide outfitting services without required registration.
There are many wildlife and hunting laws you need to be aware of, but violating these three will get you in serious trouble.
