Transporting Firearms
According to Chapter 134 of Hawaii Revised Statutes:
- Firearms must be unloaded and transported in an enclosed container on public highways. §134-1 of HRS defines “firearm loaded with ammunition” and “loaded firearm” as firearm with ammunition present within the firing chamber, revolving cylinder, or within a magazine which is inserted in a firearm.
- Firearms can be transported to and from your residence, place of business, or place of sojourn (temporary place of residence) to a place of repair; a target range; a licensed dealer’s place of business; a police station; a hunting area; an organized, scheduled firearms show or exhibit; or a formal hunter education or firearms training or instruction course.
Conviction for these violations is a felony. A convicted felon loses the right to vote, hunt with firearms, and security clearances in certain types of occupations.
